The Grounds is FC 27's new open football space and the new home of Clubs. Here's how its activities, Archetype progression and rewards work, and what it does and doesn't give Ultimate Team players.
EA SPORTS FC 27 introduces The Grounds, a new open football environment that brings Clubs, small-sided matches and casual activities together in one place. You don't have to wait for a full Club session to get into the action. The Grounds lets you see where other players are gathering, find ongoing games and move between different locations as you play.
It also gives players a space to develop their Pro, play with friends and discover different activities outside traditional match-based modes. If you'd rather have your Pro developed for you, OGEdge's Pro Clubs leveling service connects you with a verified pro. The EA FC 27 boosting hub lists every other FC 27 service.
But what does The Grounds mean for players who spend most of their time in Ultimate Team? Can anything earned there carry over to FUT?
From how its activities and Pro progression work to the rewards introduced throughout Season 1, this guide covers everything you need to know before you step into The Grounds.
What is The Grounds in FC 27?
The Grounds is the new home of Clubs in EA SPORTS FC 27. It's an open environment where up to 100 players can share the same space, explore different areas and find different ways to play.
The Grounds is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. It isn't available on PS4 or Xbox One.
Rather than functioning like a traditional football mode with a fixed sequence of matches, The Grounds gives you access to several activities from the same environment. You can play small-sided matches, take part in Kickabouts, meet other players or enter Clubs experiences.
The environment is built around three districts inspired by football cultures from the United Kingdom, France and Argentina: Parkside, Montclair and Zeiza. The central Terrace connects them.
What can you do in The Grounds?
There are several ways to play in The Grounds, including:
1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 Street Football matches
Rush
Kickabouts
Clubs matches and events
Other activities and experiences placed around The Grounds
These activities are spread throughout The Grounds rather than being grouped into a single game menu. As you explore the different areas, you can find activities, check what is available and decide how you want to spend your time.
Each type of activity also works in a slightly different way. Some focus on small-sided football, while others offer more casual challenges or larger Club experiences.
How does The Grounds work?
You can enter The Grounds from the beginning of your FC 27 experience, without needing to level up first to unlock its different areas. From there, you can explore the districts, use the map to find activities and access Street Football or Clubs experiences.
Street Football lets you take part in small-sided 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 matches. You can find Street Football pitches around The Grounds, check the rules for the activity and join the queue to play.
Rush is a fast-paced small-sided football format that offers a different way to play compared with regular Street Football matches.
Kickabouts are shorter, more casual activities. EA describes them as mixing football with other sports, such as dodgeball, basketball and bocce ball.
Clubs live in the Clubhouse, which gives you access to Club activities, including matches and events.
Playing with other players is an important part of the experience in The Grounds. If you want to play alongside a more experienced player, OGEdge offers a co-op service, letting you progress alongside a pro while staying involved in the gameplay.
How does progression work in The Grounds?
The Grounds has its own progression system centred around your Pro, with Archetypes forming the foundation of how you develop your player.
Archetypes allow you to create different builds for your Pro, with their own Attribute specialisations and PlayStyles. All Archetypes are available from the start, so you can experiment with different builds without having to unlock them individually.
As you play matches and complete Objectives in The Grounds, you earn Archetype XP (AXP). This XP allows you to level up your active Archetype and develop its Attributes, giving you more freedom to shape your Pro around the position and style you prefer.
FC 27 also expands progression with Masteries. These encourage you to develop complementary Archetypes rather than focusing entirely on one build, adding another layer to how you develop your Pro over time.
You can also experiment with Amps, which temporarily modify how your active Archetype performs for a limited number of matches. Some Amps are tied to specific Archetypes. Signature Amps can boost two Attributes, add a PlayStyle or add a Perk, depending on the Amp. Some are inspired by real footballers.
Progression in The Grounds is therefore focused on building, testing and refining your Pro to suit the way you play. If you want to develop your Pro faster, OGEdge's Pro Clubs leveling service levels your Virtual Pro to the target you choose. You keep the Archetype XP and Masteries earned along the way.
Is there a level cap in The Grounds?
Yes, but EA hasn't published FC 27's maximum level or when it will rise. Players on EA's official forums report that levels currently stop at 40, and one guide lists 75 as the Archetype maximum. Neither figure is confirmed by EA.
In FC 26, EA set a launch cap of level 50 and said the maximum would rise during the season, without giving a schedule. If FC 27 follows the same pattern, the cap will rise in steps. There is no confirmed date for level 100, or confirmation that FC 27 will go that high.
What rewards can you earn in The Grounds?
The Grounds offers different rewards depending on the activity you choose and the objectives you complete.
Regular gameplay across street activities and stadium experiences can earn Grounds Coins and AXP, while Objectives can provide additional rewards such as Cosmetic Items, AXP Consumables, Grounds Coins and Amps.
More competitive activities can offer greater rewards. Club Tournaments and Playoffs provide additional opportunities to earn rewards, while Club Tournaments can include their own entry requirements, Objectives and reward structures.
Live Events add another source of rewards. These limited-time events introduce new activities and themed rewards throughout the FC 27 cycle, meaning the content available in The Grounds can change over time.
You can also earn or obtain items through the World Stores found throughout The Grounds. These stores offer items such as Amps, Consumables, Authentic Kits, Street Clothing, Club and Street Items and Emotes. You pay with Grounds Coins or, for some items, FC Points. Some cosmetic items can also be earned through gameplay rather than purchased.
Rewards come from several sources:
Grounds Coins: street activities, stadium experiences and Objectives
Archetype XP (AXP): street activities and stadium experiences
AXP Consumables: Objectives
Cosmetic Items: Objectives, Live Events and Stores
Amps: Stores and Objectives
Club Tournament rewards: Club Tournaments
Playoff rewards: Playoffs
Live Event rewards: Live Events
Does The Grounds give Ultimate Team rewards?
Not through its own rewards, but the shared Season Pass connects the two.
The rewards listed above are tied to The Grounds, your Pro and its activities. On their own, they don't include standard Ultimate Team rewards such as FUT Coins, Player Items or packs.
The Season Pass is shared across Ultimate Team, The Grounds and Career Mode. Playing The Grounds and completing its Objectives earns Season Points, which count toward the same Season Pass rewards.
There are also separate cross-mode reward programs. For example, Club Member rewards can include FUT cosmetics alongside The Grounds rewards, while EA Play benefits can include Ultimate Team Draft Tokens and The Grounds vanity items.
Here is how the two modes compare:
Main focus: The Grounds is about your Pro, Clubs and social football. Ultimate Team is about building your FUT Club.
Main progression: The Grounds runs on AXP and Archetypes. Ultimate Team runs on squad and Club progression.
Currency: The Grounds uses Grounds Coins. Ultimate Team uses FUT Coins.
Main rewards: The Grounds pays cosmetics, AXP and Grounds items. Ultimate Team pays Player Items, packs, coins and other FUT rewards.
Gameplay: The Grounds offers small-sided football, Kickabouts and Clubs. Ultimate Team offers online and offline FUT experiences.
What is new in The Grounds after launch?
After launch, Season 1 expands The Grounds with new Live Events, Club competitions and themed activities.
One of the main additions is European Nights, which brings UEFA Champions League-themed Live Events to The Grounds. Players can take part in small-sided events and work their way towards the European Nights 11v11 Stadium Club Tournament. Rewards include UEFA Champions League Player-Themed Amps, exclusive Emotes and Club Kits.
As Halloween approaches, Screaming Grounds introduces Halloween-themed Live Events, including pumpkin-target activities and new Cosmetic Items.
Club Tournaments also give Clubs new ways to compete beyond regular League and Playoff matches, with individual tournaments able to feature their own requirements, rules and rewards.
Is The Grounds worth playing in FC 27?
The Grounds is worth trying if you enjoy Clubs, want to develop your Pro or simply want a different way to play FC 27. Its combination of small-sided football, Kickabouts, Club competitions and Pro progression gives the mode a distinct role alongside FC 27's traditional experiences.
However, players focused mainly on Ultimate Team should keep their expectations clear. Apart from Season Points toward the shared Season Pass, The Grounds has its own progression and reward systems. It doesn't provide the regular FUT Coins, Player Items or packs earned through Ultimate Team.
