You play your own board. The booster plays theirs. Neither of you plays the other's, which is why nobody needs anything from your account.

Comms, and what moves between the boards

The mode is built around the two boards talking to each other. You can watch your partner's board, and the sharing tools let units and items move across the pair under limits the current set defines. What can be sent, how often, and what it costs are set by those rules, so check them in the client for the set you are playing.

In practice the traffic runs one way more often than new players expect. The board that is already strong gets what it needs to close the game out, because one first place beats two fourth places every time.

Which is why the calls matter. When a booster asks for a piece you would rather keep, they are telling you which board the pair is betting on this game. Some games that is theirs. Some games it is yours, and you will be the one getting fed.

Booster tip: say at the start of the session whether you want the reasoning narrated or just the calls. A Double Up game has two players and one plan, and the explanation is free if you ask for it before the first lobby.

The rating is not your solo rating

Double Up keeps its own ladder. Rating earned there stays there, and rating lost there costs your solo climb nothing at all. The tier names look familiar, which is exactly why players assume the two are connected.

So if the number you want moved is the one on the standard ranked ladder, rank boosting is the service for it and Double Up will not touch it. If you want the Double Up ladder itself, or you simply want the mode played with somebody who knows it, this is the one.

What counts as a win

A win in Double Up is the pair finishing first in the lobby. Not your board surviving longest, not the placement you imagine you would have had in a solo lobby. The pair taking the lobby.

On a win-scoped order that is the unit being counted, and each one is noted in the order chat as it lands rather than summarised at the end. Placements below first still move rating, and a session full of strong placements is a productive session on the ladder, but a win order counts wins and nothing else. That cuts both ways, which is the point of counting it that way.
