The paired queue, the shared placement and the ladder that has nothing to do with your solo rank. How a Double Up session runs, what moves between the two boards, and what counts as a win.
Double Up is the Teamfight Tactics queue where two players share one result, and it keeps a ladder your solo rank never touches. Here is how a Double Up order runs, why it can only ever be a duo, and what counts as a win in a mode where four teams are playing at once.
One lobby, four teams, one shared result
Double Up puts pairs into a lobby against other pairs. You each play your own board, but the placement belongs to the pair, and the team that outlasts the rest takes the lobby together. That is the whole premise, and almost every difference from standard ranked comes out of it.
How a partner's elimination is handled, and how far the surviving player can carry the pair after it, are the mode's own rules and they have been tuned between sets. The lobby screen and the mode description in the client are the place to confirm the current version rather than any guide.
What does not move is the incentive. Two boards that keep each other alive beat two boards racing each other, and a pair that finishes first on the strength of one board has a better result than a pair whose boards both finish mid-table.
Why the order is a duo, and how the session runs
There is no solo Double Up. The queue takes a pair, the rating is earned by the pair, and there is no version of the mode where the second seat is empty. That is why this order is scoped as a session you play in, with a booster in the other seat, rather than something you leave running while you are out.
You agree a window. Both of you have to be online at once, so the session is booked rather than started whenever.
You add each other in the client. The pair queues together from the lobby, the same as queueing with a friend.
Comms open before the first game. Voice or the order chat, whichever you prefer, agreed before the first queue and not during it.
